practicinglistening.com is an independent tool to help students of any language improve their listening with objective, repeated practice – using short snippets saved from songs and YouTube videos, with text support.
What you can do
- Save cuts (snippets/loops) from a YouTube video by defining start and end.
- Associate original lyrics and translation with each snippet.
- Control speed, repeat in a loop, and quickly review snippets.
- Enable Presentation mode to play the entire video and automatically display, on screen, the texts (original + translation) in sync with each saved snippet.
- Use Flashcards to train memory and comprehension (“reveal answer” style): play random snippets and hide the lyrics or the translation according to your choice.
Flashcards
You can start training by choosing a song or a playlist. The tool plays random snippets that you have already saved as cuts and shows a card with part of the information hidden (for example: hide the translation, or hide the original lyrics – depending on the option). You try to understand “by ear”, then reveal and assess the result: easy, good, hard, or again.
